Difference B/W HTML,CSS,Javascript...

HTML

Definition:
You use HTML to create the actual content of the page, this means in HTML you define the basic structure and the contents of a website.
Example:
On the example page HTML is responsible for the text written there, and the structure (there is one header block, one navigation block and many content blocks on the bottom)

CSS

Definition:
CSS is responsible for the Design of the Webpage, how every thing looks, and where it is on the page.
Example:
Here is CSS Responsible for the text being in a dark grey, the navigation being orange, the text fields having round edges, and all the other stuff that is designed specificly for the website.

Javascript

Definition:
Javascript is responsible for everything that has to change or get animated after the website loaded, for example you can create a button that makes text disappear when you click on it, you can nearly do anything with javascript, you even can load more data from the server, that you want to appear on the webpage.
Example:
On this page Javascript is responsible for the appearing of the thumbnails with the stories in the content area and for the sub navigation where you can choose between different categories etc. The stories of the selected category will than be loaded by the javascript.

PHP

Definition:
PHP makes it possible to create pages that changes depending on the data given to php, for example you can show a different page to people from different countries or you can show a different page depending on what was posted recently on the page.
Example:
In the example the login is realized with php, as - after you typed in the email and password it will be sent to the server and checked in a database, if the user exists you will get logged in by php.

XML

XML is a language you can use to transmit any kind of data to a Webpage from the server or to save data on the server. This data can be interpreted by Javascript or PHP than. - I don't use it in this webpage but it´s simply to exchange and save data, hope this explanation for xml is enough :)

So we learn: you can create a website by just using HTML but it will be a pretty boring website than, as it just would be text on a white page.

Designe a Wensite....?
What is a website ( lets say that has stored data in a database) ?

A website is page (s) which has some valuable information. Now the information can be static i.e you write it once and the same is displayed whenever you open it again and again. It can also be dynamic i.e the information in the web page changes from time to time without the developer changing it ( Maybe an automated code that may change the information).

Considering your case lets take a dynamic website. A webpage which shows different information everyday, let's say your facebook wall. Lets compare it to creating a person.

Lets create that person.
1. Firstly, we will use HTML and construct the body of the person.
2. Everyone wants him to be beautiful right. So we use CSS and make him look     well. We give him attractive, muscular body and stylish clothes. Now he             looks handsome.
3. What's the use of a person if he cant move?
We make him move his hands and legs and all other parts usingJavascript.
4. Now that he is walking, running, doing all stuff that he can do with his hands       and legs. But finally he gets bored of doing the same actions again and             again. So, lets give him a girl. For that we add PHP. Now he has learnt how     to talk with a girl, hit on her, etc.

So we have now made a person.

HTML is for creating the basic structure( a structure is made of many individual elements.. like a building contains bedrooms, bathrooms, etc) .

CSS is for styling  (add font color, give background image, etc to)  this whole structure or the individual structures within it.

Javascript is for adding responsiveness. Example: When you click on your friend name in  facebook or gmail chat, a chatbox pops up. This is Javascript

PHP is for dynamic changes in the webpages. Example: Facebook wall. The code for facebook wall (http://www.facebook.com/home.php) is same for everyone but everyone has different perspective.

:::Short to tell Definations:::
HTML: It contains the set of all the text and media files(images, videos) that you see in a website. Kept alone, it is boring to look at or deal with.

CSS: The designer. Places the boring html set in beautiful format.

PHP: The logic maker. It decides what to present to the html to show to you. Works behind the scene. Incognito Master!

MySQL: The Store Keeper. It stores the data in an orgainsed way, ready to be presented by HTML, elegantly by CSS with the help of PHP codes.

XML: The elder brother of html. It unlike html that only displays data, can also describe the data. That is, it understands the way data is to be stored or transferred to other programs. Use this to move all your contacts from one device to another.
